Weekly Written Analysis 1
The aspect of pop culture that I’d like to review today is television. Television, as we know it, has been in existence since the early 1900s. We have shown many different kinds of shows—news shows to comedy to dramas to series to reality. Reality TV is where I would like to focus.
Reality television (TV) is unscripted situations and events that happened in everyday live, but are broadcasted over the airwaves. It is the raw uncut version of what we see in day time TV (soap operas) and prime time TV (programs watched from 8 pm to 11 pm). It has been come popular because of the connecting factor that mimics real life and the curiosity of those who haven’t experienced that kind of life that is being show.
K-Ci and JoJo... Come Clean |
Reality TV is growing in popularity. Every time you turn on the channel there is a new version of the same—from housewives, to surviving, to singing and dancing, to modeling, to racing and finding love. This type of TV is a fad. According to Popular Culture, “we are dedicated to have and enjoying fads” (Browne, p. 172). I find the shows to be entertaining, nonetheless. Some I seem to watch season after season, other I seen to turn the channel. It interesting to get an “inside peek” of celebrity lives; which seems to catch the interest of almost everyone. This fad, rather we like it or not, seems to be long lasting. This last wave has been going strong since the 90s attention for a while.
