Icon Analysis
So, let’s pick three contemporary icons to look at today. I choose Chris Brown, DVR’s and Android. These are three interesting choices I know.
I selected Chris Brown because he is originally known for his ability to sing and dance. Everyone loved him. He got in trouble with the law…caught a case. Everyone hated him. He’s trying to clean up his tarnished image; however, it seems that the public is not willing to forgive even though the public was not the one harmed—only the image or belief in the icon. Whether you like him or not; whether you agree or not, Chris Brown will be in the history books forever…everyone, young and old, has an opinion of him. Personally I think Chris Brown is a phenomenal entertainer. I like him as a person. Sure he messed up…messed up big, but who hasn’t. The difference between you and Chris Brown is his “mess up” went public…yours didn’t. May yours was not domestic violence, but just thing back a few years ago…it was something you wanted NO ONE to know about. It’s time to forgive, forget, and let him live his life. My next choice is the DVR. This technology has become an icon in the world. I remember a few years back, no one would think of paying extra to have a device sit in your home, attach to your TV and record a program. I can remember how we all used to plan our lives around our favorite show. Maybe it was dinner; maybe it was a doctor appointment; maybe it was shopping, but we made sure that we would NOT do it during our favorite shows. Now, we continue to do the things we need and let our infamous TV shows wait on us. Then we take a day or two…maybe a week, and catch up on what we missed and we dare a person to spoil it for us...(smile). This simple piece of technology has revolutionized our world today and will be remember forever in history.
Last but not least, the 3rd icon for today is Android. It is the operating system that is used on many smart phones that make it comparable to iPhone. It first was an exclusive club and cost a pretty penny if you wanted it on your phone, but now it is becoming more affordable and more desirable than any other operating system on the cell phone. I previously had a Blackberry phone and was pretty satisfied with it. Then, I was introduced to the Android system. OMG! What a difference. It makes my life so much easier. I can do nearly everything on my phone and the apps (applications) that are available to me are astronomical! Because of the mark that Android has made in the cell phone world, it will be known as a revolutionizer forever.
