Pop Culture 1-2

Today let's get to the root of what popular (pop) culture is and how it relates to today.  Popular (pop) simply means "of the people" (Petracce, p. 2) or what the people want.   Culture is associated with refinement and intellectual superiority (Petracce, p. 2).  In a nut shell pop culture is the intellectual superiority of the people.
Pop culture shapes the world that we live in.  It helps influence our beliefs, our values and our likes and dislikes.  It helps us form opinions about financials issues, politics, religion, family circles, ethnicity, music, movies, books, livelihoods, cars, etc.  Without pop culture, many of us would not have an opinion.
The business environment, if it embraces pop culture, has the ability to expand business ventures, develop new ideas and reach other demographics of people.  There are many tools and resources that pop culture has developed that can be used by the business environment.  For instance, the music industry uses the "regular" way to distribute music--CD's.  Pop culture has demanded a more instant way to obtain music.  Music can now be purchase through site that would allow digital version ie MP3s , to be downloaded directly on to digital devices like MP3 players and mobile phones.

One tool that I use that directly connects me to pop culture is You Tube.  I access You Tube for many different things, music videos, entertainment video, school tutoring, instructional videos just to name a few.  This very valuable tool has enabled me to be more resourceful and help me to stay connected to the pop culture world.
